Tatra Museum Building is not the first , where you could admire the collected exhibits concerning the entire Podhale region . Its first headquarters was located at Krupówki , the town's main street, in a house owned by Jan Krzeptowski. This building, which made of light-colored stone and plaster with slender windows, we can still admire today, is a beautiful example of brick architecture in the Zakopane style and the main building of the Tatra Museum itself is a valuable architectural monument legally protected . Since 2021, the patron of the Tatra Museum has been, among others, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the authorities of the Małopolska province. These include paintings painted on glass, regional musical instruments, traditional highland costumes and numerous natural history exhibits, you can also see the Wladyslaw Hasior's gallery.
From 2014 to 2020 European Union funds under the Regional Operational Program of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship were distributed and renovation of the building with other branches of the museum was carried out , and the most important among them is:
Historic Villa Koliba , standing on Koscieliska Street, has been designed by Stanislaw Witkiewicz , and now you can see in it ethnographic exhibition including a huge number of exhibits , donated by one of the villa's owners, Zygmunt Gnatowski, among others.
It is supplemented by an equally large collection of Maria and Bronislaw Dembowski in a historic cottage that once belonged to the Caterpillar family , and all present folk culture of Podhale .
