Zakopane and the Podhale region are places that particularly took a liking to the Polish Pope John Paul II , always had them in his heart and was eager to return to them. Also, residents of this part of Poland gave him enormous respect and love , so a huge shock to them were the events of May 13, 1981, when this great Pole was assassinated in St. Peter's Square in Rome. That is why they decided to erect Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima , including a new Church , a gift from the people of Podhale thanking the Mother of God For saving the life of the Holy Father . While in Zakopane, it is also worth visiting other examples of sacred architecture, Jaszczurówka Chapel , Church in Harenda , whether Holy Family Church , with the same fascinating history and many interesting sights hiding inside them.
History of the Shrine began in 1951 , that is, more than 30 years earlier, at the time when Karol Wojtyla was writing his doctoral thesis. It was then that the faithful began crowds flock to Krzeptówki , to pray in the Chapel erected in part of the Our Lady of Fatima , to a painting depicting The apparition of Our Lady to the three children of Fatima . Special services were held here in honor of Our Lady of Fatima.
In 1961, the bishop of this city handed over to Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski statue of Our Lady of Fatima . Donated by the Portuguese bishop, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima is located in the chapel. Immaculate Heart of Mary , but before that, on Oct. 21, 1987, Pope John Paul II made the following in Rome The coronation of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima.
The main place National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima is a church built between 1987 and 1990. This modern, eye-catching church was designed by Eng. Stanislaw Tylka, and on May 13, 1990, the then Metropolitan of Krakow, Cardinal Franciszek Macharski, laid the cornerstone that was brought here from St. Peter's Tomb in Rome and the site of Our Lady's first apparition at Fatima . The foundations of the church were also built into the picture of the Polish Pope, and with each brick a miraculous medal .
John Paul II had a great desire to visit Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Zakopane's Krzeptówki district , 4 km from the city center. It managed to June 7, 1997 , when he made solemn consecration of the church . To this day, the shrine has an altar at which the John Paul II celebrated Mass during his visit to Zakopane , specifically under the famous ski jumping hill Wielka Krokiew .

09.03.2011The Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima is a Roman Catholic Marian shrine located in Zakopane's Krzeptówki district. It was built as a votive offering for the rescue of theof the life of Pope John Paul II after the May 13, 1981 assassination attempt. In its centurm is the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, which was consecrated by the Pope in 1997 during his 6th pilgrimage to Poland. In a chapel near the church is a statue of Our Lady of Fatima - a gift of Poland's Primate Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski. In the Fatima Park on the grounds of the sanctuary was placed the altar at which Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass in Zakopane near Krokwia on June 6, 1997. The sanctuary is cared for by Pallotine priests.
