The lapidarium was established in July 2001. During an international youth camp, young people from the twin cities of Wągrowiec: Adendorf - Germany, Schönwalde - Niemcy, Gyula - Hungary has undertaken to rescue material evidence that commemorates the existence of the Jewish people in Wągrowiec. Jewish matzevot (tombstones) commemorating the Jews of Wągrowiec were excavated from the bottom of the Struga Golaniecka River. The tombstones were placed on the slope of the former Jewish cemetery, where there is now a lapidarium.
