  • Botanical Garden in Cracow The Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow - a botanical garden founded in 1783 in Cracow, located east of the Old Town.ta, in the area of Wesola (now district II of Grzegórzki. The garden covers an area of 9.6 hectares. Muzuem is the oldest botanical collection in Poland. The garden hosts exhibitions, galleries and concerts. In 1976 the Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University was entered in the register of monuments, as a valuable object of nature, a monument to the history of science, horticultural art and culture. On May 26, 1983, during the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University, a permanent exhibition was opened according to a script by Alicja Zemanek and an artistic design by Jerzy Swiecimski. In 1983, the nationwide Section of the History of Botany of the Polish Botanical Society was established, with its headquarters and research program coupled with the Museum's activities. The Arboretum, or park part of the Garden, concentrates the collection of trees and shrubs and occupies the largest area. It is partly composed as a landscape park and partly as thematic groups - geographical or ornamental. The collection of woody plants includes about 1000 species and varieties, the most valuable groups are maples and oaks. Among the many beautiful and exquisite plants, the more than 200-year-old "Jagiellonian Oak" reigns supreme.
