Feedback

  • A valuable monument of Romanesque culture, the Church of the Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Inowrocław is one of the oldest churches in Kuyavia. Built at the end of the 12th lub in the early 13th century. On the walls of the temple are mysterious bas-reliefs depicting masks of humans and demons, animals and crosses. They were probably meant to protect the holy place from evil powers. The church contains, among others, a Gothic sculpture of the Smiling Madonna from the 14th century. The temple was destroyed by fires and fell into ruins, hence its usual name. Today the rebuilt monument continues to serve the faithful. In 2008 the temple was raised to the dignity of a basilica minor.
