28.09.2011The castle is unusually picturesquely located on top of the towering 627-meter-high mountain of the same name. The stone castle was built here in 1353-64 by the Duke of Swidnica-Jaštín.worski Bolko II the Small. The castle at that time, built on a rectangular plan, consisted of a circular defensive tower, enclosing a courtyard from the southeast, a dwelling house and a gate.At the beginning of the 15th century there was an expansion of the castle. At that time the northern courtyard was added, in the central place of which was erected (around 1410) a pillory, which has been preserved to this day. After a lightning strike on the castle, a fire broke out, which consumed the entire castle. After this event, which took place on August 31, 1675, the building was never rebuilt again. However, the picturesque ruins of the castle have been attracting tourists since the end of the 18th century. The Chojnik Castle Knight Brotherhood has been operating at the castle since 1993. It organizes the Knight Tournament "For the Golden Belt of Chojnik" every year on the second Saturday and Sunday of September. There is also a tourist hostel with 30 beds and a tourist buffet.
