Zakopane encourages tourists to come not only on mountain hiking trails , whether excellent conditions for winter sports . It is worth planning a summer or winter vacation in this city and the Polish mountains also because of the numerous monuments of unique Zakopane architecture. Among other things, we can visit Jaszczurówka Chapel , Historic Church in Harenda , whether Holy Family Church in Zakopane .
Equally interesting are the examples of historic villas built in the highland style , and one of the best known is certainly Villa Pod Jedlami, also known as Dom Pod Jedlami , fully deservedly counted among the One hundred architectural wonders of Poland.
Before visiting the House Under the Jedlami and other equally interesting sights , we should secure in advance, preferably even before we arrive accommodation in Zakopane . Having secured accommodation, we can set out to find the Villa Pod Jedlami , which took its name from the fact that over the site for the construction of the once stood three spreading fir trees , and now in the garden grow limber trees, yews, Zakopane's largest linden tree and larches. It can be found on the street Koziniec 1 in Zakopane and is one of the most visited and recognizable sights in the city.
This beautiful house built in 1897 in the Zakopane style, with a veranda, designed by Witkiewicz , an artist associated with Zakopane and also a well-known architect. The villa was built by Stanislaw Witkiewicz for the Jan Gwalbert Pawlikowski, lover of the Tatra Mountains and highland culture and still remains in the hands of the family.
As a curiosity, we can state that in 1900, the model of the Villa under the Jedlami was presented at the World Exhibition in Paris, where it received tremendous attention . The house was built with wooden logs on the plan of an elongated rectangle , on a high stone foundation, which on one side of the building reaches up to 4 meters high, and above the house masters of highland carpentry worked , Wojciech Roja, Jan Obrocht and Zapotoczny.
Villa built in the Zakopane style for Jan Gwalbert Pawlikowski hosted many famous people in its interiors Among others, poet Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, who was married to Jan Gwalbert Henryk Pawlikowski, lived and worked here. Her sister, writer and satirist Magdalena Samozwaniec, was a frequent visitor here, as well as Jan Kasprowicz, Stefan Żeromski, Karol Szymanowski, Zofia and Witold Paryscy and Nobel laureates in literature , Władysław Reymont and Henryk Sienkiewicz. In the villa concentrated the intellectual life of Zakopane at the time.
Inside we can see a rich collection of traditional furniture in the Zakopane style , those for the dining room were made by Kazimierz Sieczka, those for the guest rooms by Józef Kaspruś Stoch and Jędrzej Krzeptowski, and those standing in the bedroom by Wojciech Brzega. Rooms are decorated with works of art , including prints depicting the Virgin Mary, the painting "Sheep in the Mist" by Witkacy, and stove with ceramic drip . Outside, further into the garden stands a well, also designed by Witkiewicz, and a watchtower, commonly called the House under the Jasieńmi.
