    Unique Stay: May 2013

A beautiful place where you can see and feel the passage of time and old age.As for the indicated in the previous comment falling into ruins, I can not agree with this. Ivy and ferns richlyOvergrown remains of tombstones beautifully emphasize the charm of times past. A lot of tombstones devastated, stolen plaques, bullet marks, but this is the history of this place, under a carpet of ivy former residents of breslau sleep forever. The staff of the museum as I see takes care of the area, cutting young trees and clearing the paths. The area in front of the cemetery nicely cared for, toilets nice and clean. I definitely recommend, especially in the early afternoon hours of the morning - quiet, atmosphere. Something completely different from the restored centers and *fashionable* monuments.

A wonderful place, unfortunately it is falling into disrepair. Ivy has already covered most of the tombstones, other weeds as well. The tombs themselves are pieces of art. We can find in this cemetery an unusual speace, the atmosphere of the past, it is worth talking to the gentleman who sells tickets, he tells very interesting stories and has extraordinary knowledge about the Jews buried in this cemetery and more.

  • The Jewish cemetery on Slezna Street is now the Museum of Cemetery Art, which is a branch of the Wroclaw City Museum. Its total area is 4.6 hectares, locatedIt is home to some 12,000 tombstones. There are graves of Jews who came here from distant places, including Gdansk, Warsaw, Bonn, Hamburg and Boston. The necropolis is a place of particular importance to historians, as the burial place of many famous people not only from Wroclaw, but also from Europe. The cemetery is clearly distinguished from the cemeteries of Eastern Europe. It is a place of diverse forms of grave art, rich symbolism, unusual ornamentation of matzevot and buildings. Some of them are modeled on the Moorish or Egyptian style. This fact makes that after crossing the cemetery gate you get the impression that time has stopped. The cemetery can be visited daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a small admission fee (5 concessionary 7 normal zlotys - information from 13/10/2007).
