Kampinos Biosphere Reserve

Feedback

  • It lies northwest of Warsaw, with which it directly neighbors. 70% of its area is Kampinos Forest. Of the 1370 species of vascular plants, the protected p69 species are found. The landscape is dominated by dunes and marshes. Of the 16,000 animal species living here, 83 species, as endangered, have been included in the Polish Red Book of Animals. A further 280 have been placed under species protection. The Southern Forest Trail, 56.1km long, leads from Frederic Chopin's home in Żelazowa Wola through the Kampinos Forest to the borders of Warsaw. During the two-day hike, you can see agricultural areas, meadows on peat bogs, deciduous swamp forests, lofty dunes with old pine forest, numerous magnificent trees - monuments of nature and history.
