The Bieszczady National Park has existed since 1973 and currently covers an area of more than 29,000 hectares of the Western Bieszczady Mountains. Since 1992 it has formed an international, Polish-Ukrainian-sHunting, the Biosphere Reserve "Eastern Carpathians" together with the landscape parks: Valley of the San River, Cisnia-Wetlinskiy, Uzhsky National Park, Nadsianskiy Landscape Park and PN "Poloniny". Natural beech forests and high mountain meadows deserve special protection in these areas. The Bieszczady Mountains were formed about 25 million years ago from flissile sediments originating from the ocean that existed 100 million years ago. These rocks were uplifted by Alpine folding. Forests cover the vast majority of the park's territory. They are mainly beech forests, with fir and sycamore appearing in addition. In some areas you can also find spruce and alder. The higher parts of the mountains are covered with meadows, where plants characteristic of the Eastern Carpathians appear, such as white scabious and dacian violet. The park is home to many large predators. Brown bears, wolves and, increasingly rare, lynx, which are the symbol of the park, live here. Sometimes you can also see wildcats wandering alone. Birds of prey reign over the Bieszczady forests and meadows - the golden eagle and the lesser spotted eagle. Tourists to the Bieszczady Mountains are attracted primarily by the landscape. While hiking in the Bieszczady highlands, you can enjoy expansive views. What's more, the Bieszczady are some of Poland's milder mountains, so they are suitable for a trip even for less experienced hikers. For visitors are prepared approx. 120 km of trails, which provide opportunities for both short and multi-day hikes and discovering the beauty of the region. When visiting the Bieszczady National Park, it is worthwhile to take advantage of horseback tours. The park has a network of horse trails with a total length of 142 km. The center in Wolosat offers rides on Hutsul horses - both learning for the less experienced, as well as several-day rallies for tourists more familiar with horseback riding.
