07.05.2014Pier in Ustka-This is a hydro-engineering structure, where the recreational function of the pier located perpendicular to the sea shoreline is obtained on the breakwaters shieldanith the entrance to the port. The first engineering construction (of which there are records in documents) located in the mouth of the Slupia River was a fortress in Ustka. The stronghold had a scroll damming up the waters of the river. The powers of Slupsk were to take over the mouth of the Slupia River from the Swiecians, along with its riverbed and adjacent areas. Trade and fishing were now to flourish; the scroll was destroyed, the bottom at the mouth of the Slupia was deepened and the first harbor breakwaters were built 55 meters out to sea. The structure of the breakwaters was wooden baskets filled with stones - so it was not yet a pier. The first wharves for mooring ships were also built then. At the turn of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, as a result of fires, floods and epidemics, maintenance of hydrotechnical structures was abandoned - their degradation followed. In 1759, the breakwaters are completely washed away. By the decision of Frederick William II, the port is rebuilt in the mid-18th century. A palisade was built on the eastern shore and a fortification on the western shore. The eastern pier was rebuilt in 1809-1810; to a length of 35 meters. In 1820, the breakwaters were restored and extended to a length of 76 meters. The state takeover on December 22, 1831 contributes to the systematic renovation and expansion of the port. The piers (western and eastern breakwaters) have been systematically maintained and expanded since then. For strategic reasons, the Germans undertook various plans to expand the port since 1936. For implementation, with the start of work on August 1, 1938, came the project with the construction of a third pier (to this day you can see the remaining structure of this work- west of the port). The work was discontinued after the Wermacht conquered all of Pomerania.
