I bought a yarmulke here, becoming "the only Jew in Tykocin," is how a tour guide at a nearby museum commented on it
27.08.2014Interesting interior, a nice atmosphere is complemented by Jewish prayers playing in the background. There is currently not a single Jew in Tykocin, I learned that sometimes the synagogue rented outis by Jewish circles and then turns into a place of prayers. However, there is no bland concentration, there is dancing and singing:-) Next to the synagogue is a museum. The ticket is shared. The main collections of the Tykocin Museum, depicting the history and culture of the town and its surroundings, were created in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Prominent among them are the Judaic collection, the collection of pharmacy relics (equipment of old provincial pharmacies and pharmacy archives), the collection of house furnishings from the late 19th century to World War II, and the collection of family archives, documenting the history of several Tykocin families.
27.08.2014The Great Synagogue in Tykocin is now the second largest and one of the oldest synagogues in Poland. The main prayer hall displays, among other things, antique scrolls of the Tory covered with a crown, tasya, tallit, books, tefillin, hanukkiahs, menorahs, besaminas. A rabbi's room and a reconstruction of the Passover Seder, or Passover supper, were set up in the tower. In 1992, the synagogue was visited by Israeli President Chaim Herzog.
