27.08.2014The only castle in the Podlaskie province, so.... a must see. A private owner bought a pile of rubble and erected the castle from scratch on the basis of the documents he collected. Przewodnik gives a tour of the renovated part of the castle. In preparation is a part of the castle where there will be an armory and hotel rooms. Tykocin gains a lot by having such a facility, the town itself also has its own charm, cobbled streets, old houses....
24.08.2014Tykocin Castle - a royal castle from the 15th century located on the right bank of the Narew River The Renaissance castle was built for King Sigismund Augustus on a plan similar to thetrapezoid with a courtyard and 4 cylindrical towers at the corners. The interiors of the castle were richly decorated. At the same time, the castle walls were surrounded by an additional brick wall with four horseshoe bastions surrounded by a moat, located 15 meters away. In the 1st half of the 17th century, during the reign of Sigismund III Vasa, the wall with bastions was dismantled and the entire buildings were additionally surrounded by four earth bastions connected by long earth curtains, thus creating a modern fortress. The fortification surrounding the castle covered an area of more than 6 hectares. The length of one side of the fortress was about 250 meters.
