    Very good Stay: September 2014

One of the most underrated natural places in Torun. - And let it stay that way! I don't need the taboos of people there, the noise, the screaming kids, the smrhodal tobacco smokers and other such littering townsfolk.... . - I prefer to lounge alone in the bushes contemplating the wonder of nature in the middle of the city.... .

  • Kępa Bazarowa - an island on the left bank of the Vistula River in Torun (Podgórze district), separated from the mainland by the so-called Little Vistula River. It is the only surviving of the many so-called "kępa", or zalesionych islands on the Vistula near Toruń existing before the regulation of the river in the 19th century. The name has been known since the Middle Ages and probably comes from merchants stopping here. In 1411 the First Peace of Toruń was concluded on it. In modern times, the island was densely built up, with craftsmen living here. Since the 19th century, it gradually became overgrown with riparian forest. In the interwar period, a water sports center was built here. There is a vantage point here overlooking the panorama of Toruń's Old Town complex. It is also called the "Monkey Grove" because in the 16th and 17th centuries harlots, expelled from the cities, settled on it.
