Hello, I have been to the castle. I recommend it, an amazing thing. We made a Saturday trip to Szymbark and Kamieniec. The castle is now privately owned, partially securedtored by the Foundation, which probably wanted to organize a Center for Blind Children with Musical Abilities there before selling the facility. Well-preserved ruins. You can take a look inside. An amiable elderly gentleman ("professional photographer" - you will understand when you are there) gives a tour of the castle, tells, shows - you can climb the walls and see the "hall of death".
Maciej - 15.10.2008The construction of the castle in Szymbark was presumably initiated in the 1470s by Henryk of Skarlin, the provost of the Pomezanian chapter. Some historians prezentify a different view, according to which the process of erecting the fortress began much earlier, perhaps as early as the 13th century. The castle was built on a rectangular plan measuring 75 by 92 meters. It was built on the embankment of an earlier Prussian castle, making the level of the courtyard about 9 meters higher than that of the pre-castle. After war damage, a partially restored closed perimeter of stone and brick walls of full or almost full height survived from the fortress, along with towers, a gate and a stone bridge. The residential buildings in the courtyard have survived in a residual state
