    Unique Stay: July 2013

When visiting the Skierniewice market, it is worth sitting on Professor Pieniążek's bench. It is said that rubbing an apple, held in the hand by the Professor, brings good luck. Prof. Szczepan Aleksander Pieniążek (1913-2008), founder and long-time director of the Institute of Pomology and Floriculture in Skierniewice, made our city the fruit heart of Poland. As a tribute to the outstanding Professor, Skierniewice residents dedicated the year 2009 to him. As part of the Year of Professor Pieniążek, the only apple tree avenue in Poland was reconstructed in Skierniewice. In the market square in front of the City Hall stood the Professor's bench, and in front of the Institute building a bust of the great scientist and practitioner was unveiled. A special memento of the Year of Professor Pieniążek are the occasional local ducats "PIENIĄŻKI" with his image. The inscription on the plaque next to the sculpture: Professor, you have given us the fruit of the gods - the YABEL you left - the HEART we thank you... skierniewiczanie
