Feedback

  • St. Philip and St. James Church in Sekowa was built around 1520. This wooden church made of hand hewn larch logs has a log structure, but is erected on aA foundation of stone. The chancel and the narrower nave are covered by a common roof. Expanded in the 17th century, a post and frame tower, satellites and a signature were built. In the 19th century, the sacristy and music choir were rebuilt, followed by neo-Gothic polychrome. The interior does not have rich furnishings from past eras, as it was looted during World War I. Though of course there will be some interesting relics including a rainbow beam, triptychs and a baptismal font. The church was very popular among painters in the 19th century, immortalized for example by Stanislaw Wyspianski, Jozef Mehoffer and Wlodzimierz Tetmajer. Its exceptional aesthetic, architectural and landscape qualities determined its inclusion in the UNESCO list.
