I would give more stars than 2 if the castle could be seen from the inside. There is a scary sign at the entrance saying that everything is in danger of a building disaster. Photos taken from the air throughhorserace us that something is being done in this castle to restore it to tourist traffic. The castle is picturesquely located, although access from the A4 from Krakow is only via the old Krakow road
22.05.2013The castle is named after the Tęczynski family. However, you can often come across the name Tenczyn Castle - this name derives from the nearby village of Tenczynek, which in the formerch times it was called Tęczyn Mały. The first mention of the area around the castle of Tęczyn, is dated September 24, 1308, when Wladyslaw Lokietek with a troop of knights staying in the forests in Thanczin issued a document for the Cistercian monastery in Sulejow. It is assumed that the first castle (wooden) was built around 1319 by the castellan of Krakow Nawoj of Morawica, and he also erected the largest tower in the castle, still known as "Nawojowa Wieża". The actual builder of the walled castle was Nawoj's son, Jędrzej, governor of Krakow and Sandomierz. He erected a further section of the castle on the highest, northeastern part of the hill, where he lived and died in 1368.He was also the first to adopt the surname Tęczynski. Jedrzej's son, Jasko, renovated and greatly expanded the castle and established a chapel. At the beginning of the 21st century, the castle fell into increasing disrepair due to jurisdictional disputes between different levels of government. In 2009, due to the poor technical condition of the castle, it was closed to visitors. In 2010, the municipality, which is the administrator of the castle, obtained funds and began partial preservation of the ruins. Thanks to the security work, the process of destruction of the ruins has been stopped. The castle can only be seen from the outside.
