When the International Chapter of the Order of the Smile decided to convene the First World Rally of the Cavaliers of the Order of the Smile in 1996, it chose Rabka as its venue. Rabka, known as the uchildren's health since the late nineteenth century, was at the same time submitted by the chapter to the Governor of Nowy Sącz with an application for the title of "City of Children of the World." The rally of bachelors in Rabka was held on June 1-2, 1996. At that time, the Museum of the Order of the Smile was inaugurated in the building of the Upper Silesian Rehabilitation Center at 2 Dietla Street. The ceremonial opening was performed by Jolanta Kwasniewska, wife of the then president, and Cezary Leżeński, chancellor of the International Chapter of the Order of the Smile. A year later, the Order's bachelors again descended on Rabka for their Second World Rally. A little earlier, the museum found its new home in Primary School No. 2 on Sadecka Street. The ceremonies were attended by the then Prime Minister, Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz. In the spring of 2003, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the order, the museum was moved to a specially erected wooden building on the grounds of the "Rabkoland" Family Amusement Park.
