  • The Museum of Poznan June 1956 is housed in the former Imperial Castle of Kaiser Wilhelm II, who decided to demolish the fortifications surrounding Poznan and expand thecities. The imperial residence, designed by Prof. Franz Schwechten of Berlin, was completed in 1910. The building is now called the Castle Cultural Center. The permanent exhibition documents the first mass public uprising against communist rule in the People's Republic of Poland. The exhibition features some 200 photographs showing the causes of the Poznan workers' uprising, a rally of thousands of people in the vicinity of the Castle (then the seat of the Municipal National Council) and the building of the then Provincial Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR), the passage of groups of demonstrators to the prison and the release of prisoners, the destruction of devices jamming Radio "Free Europe" (on the ZUS building ), fights near the building of the Security Office, the entry of the army and the pacification of the city. Also on display are mementos of those murdered during the incidents, including the youngest - 13-year-old Romek Strzałkowski.
