Poznan - the seat of the Roman gods

Feedback

  • It is not an ancient temple but a city with an extraordinary atmosphere - picturesque Poznan. Its heart is the Old Market Square, where in four points, like thrones, turning theirhe faces in the four directions of the world, once stood statues of four gods: Jupiter, Neptune, Apollo and Mars. At the beginning of the turbulent 20th century, they disappeared for a while, only to return in even greater glory, but without Jupiter. At the front of the town hall, meanwhile, stands a fountain where Pluto entraps the beautiful Proserpine. The townhouses around the square, the unique Renaissance Town Hall, are a living chronicle of Poznan's history. And on the town hall tower - a showpiece of the city - two wooden goats emerging every day at high noon to gyrate their horns for a minute. It is worth a trip to the esoteric Wilda - a district of Poznań that impresses with its unusual architecture. Charming stucco, portals, on the one hand originality, on the other simplicity of various buildings, often marked by the stigma of time. The city is bisected by a ribbon of the Warta River. It is a must to visit this place, especially on Kupala Night, when the residents of Poznan gather by the river to release thousands of lanterns into the air. Get to know atmospheric Poznan!
