Paczków - first impression - shabby, peeling, dirty. Gems of architecture, of which there are many, are deteriorating until the heart and eyes hurt. City toilets, park, streets - bruddy and littered. Tempted by descriptions on the net, I went, saw and am shocked. Maybe start with a brush and rake ? Well, and fight for funds for restoration of monuments !!!
Magorzata K. - 30.05.2022The elements of Paczków's preserved fortifications also include three gate towers - Wrocławska, Kłodzka and Ząbkowicka - and the Nyska gate. The first of these, located on Wrocławska Streetawska, is the oldest and most powerful - it measures about 30 meters. It was built along with the defensive walls in the middle of the 14th century. Partially demolished in the first half of the 15th century, it was rebuilt in 1462. At that time, a pillory, or "pillar of dishonor," was erected next to it, at which criminals were displayed, usually administering the punishment of flogging. The tower is a remnant of a massive gate structure, which consisted of a gate building, a bridge over the moat and a fore-gate, which housed the city prison. In the finial of the tower one can see a characteristic crenellation with shooting towers. The Wroclaw Tower is open to tourists - a vantage point is organized on its top, offering an excellent panorama of the city. It is open from Monday to Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (key available at the Traffic Kiosk on Armii Krajowej Street). The Klodzka Gate Tower is located at the closure of Narutowicza Street. It dates back to the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, and was significantly raised in the next century. It guarded the city against the possible arrival of the enemy from the Czech Republic. During the Renaissance it received an attic in the shape of a fish tail. According to legends, it was a "hunger tower", to which slaughterers condemned to death were sent. It measures about 22 meters. Very similar in appearance to the Klodzko Tower is the tower guarding the Ząbkowicka Gate (similar attic, but no brick pyramid), located on Sikorskiego Street. The tower, also known as "Laziebna", was built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, and owes its second name to its immediate vicinity to the former city bathhouse. Its height reaches about 27 meters. The city gate on Wojska Polskiego Street is called Nyska and leads out of the city towards Nysa. It was built in 1573 and is guarded by a massive shell tower. In 1778 the gate was bricked up, but it was reopened as early as 1819. One of Paczków's more interesting tourist attractions is a wooden covered walking gallery with viewing platforms and a hurdy-gurdy on the crown of the defensive wall at the Nysa Gate. The designed tourist route along the walls measures about 77 meters. The main walking route leads at a height of more than 7 meters, where a pathway sidewalk of almost 1.5 meters wide has been installed. At the level of the first tower, visitors have the opportunity to climb a wooden staircase to the gun porch at a height of about 13.5 meters. The gallery will lead further to the next tower - there tourists can climb to a further platform (this time at a height of 15.5 m) or leave the path. The last stop is the third tower, a hurdy-gurdy - a kind of wooden covered porch on a semicircle plan - has been designed on it. The Nysa Gate Viewing Path is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In addition, outside the established hours, you can arrange a walk on the path with Ms. Teresa Stańczyc - Bednarz of the TeraTour office, at 796 030 025. Entrance is free of charge. However, please read in advance the rules and regulations of the facility, which are posted in front of the entrance. Children under 15 years of age can enter the Path only when accompanied by adults.
