  • Established in 1911, this museum, located in the historic "Batorówka" building at Olkusz's market square, is one of the oldest regional museums in Poland. In its richof these collections is a sword from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It is said to have been used to behead two Olkusz miners who, in search of silver, dug under the local church. The museum features a stone gmerk, or bourgeois coat of arms, arrowheads from the 15th century, fragments of wooden water pipes from the 16th-17th centuries, as well as a rich archaeological collection. Noteworthy is the ethnographic and ore mining exposition; old mining tools; a mortar for crushing ore, lamps, and a wooden hammer. Minerals and Jurassic fossils complete the collection. The museum also collects maps, coins and photographs. Noteworthy in the rich historical section is a 14th century sculpture of the Crucified Christ. A collection of Judaica is valuable, as well as a collection of paintings.
