Feedback

  • Wladyslaw Wolkowski (1902 - 1986), a graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, was called the "Michelangelo of wicker." Usable objects made by him from wickerWe; chairs or tables to this day surprise with the originality of solutions. It is no coincidence that the works of this pioneer of modern design were presented and awarded a gold medal at the 1937 World Exhibition of Art and Technology in Paris. Of a special character are the "Polish strobes" created by Wolkowski, i.e. large, colorful tapestries and kilims. The collection also includes sketches, drawings and notes by this remarkable artist, who was a co-founder of the Polish wickerwork craft in the postwar period. Made of wicker, string, reeds and feathers, Volkowski's works are a testament to the uncommon talent of this artist, who was also the author of the concept of the so-called "poetic apartment" and terrain art. The collection, which is housed in the historic Machnicki Manor House, is the largest in Poland of his works.
