On the highest elevation of the Gniezno Lake District - Wydartowski Embankment (167 meters above sea level), the fourth elevation in Greater Poland, there is a 12-meter-high observation tower. In good weather, the central area of the Piast Route can be seen from it: Trzemeszno and Mogilno, the cathedral in Gniezno, the outline of Inowrocław (30 km), as well as the cement plant in Barcin (20 km), the chimneys of the power plant in Konin (50 km), and even the dome of the basilica in Licheń (55 km). The previous structure, which burned down in September 2011, was preceded by several even older structures. In 1942 the Germans erected a 70-meter high wooden observation tower, which was destroyed by fire in 1956. Another one (50 m high) was built by the army, followed by a wooden one 25 m high, which stood until 1965.
