The open-air museum was opened in 1977. Designed by Witold Wisniewski and Krzysztof Brzezinski according to a script by Wlodzimierz Woloszyn, it was created on the initiative of Rady of Protection of Monuments of Struggle and Martyrdom and the Main Political Board of the Polish Army, and all the work was carried out by soldiers of units of the Warsaw Military District. In its heyday, there were three parts: a monument to the heroes of the battles by the highway, a company resistance point, and a display of combat and engineering equipment at the battle stations. The open-air museum was intended to commemorate the battles of the tactical compounds of the 1st Army of the Polish Army on the warecko-Magnuszewski bridgehead. It was located at the site of the battles of the 3rd Pomeranian Infantry Division named after Romuald Traugutt and the 1st Warsaw Independent Cavalry Brigade.
