Obelisk in Lubun

Feedback

  • Just at the entrance from the road by the bridge, a stately obelisk was set up, surrounded at the foot by thirteen field stones - that's how many canoeists accompanied Karol Wojtyla during therafting trip down the Slupia River in 1964. The inscription on the obelisk reads: In memory of the stay in 1964 of Archbishop Karol Wojtyla with his family on a pastoral canoeing trip down the Slupia River - Townspeople of Kobylnica Municipality Lubun 2006. The stone is an erratic boulder. The treatment of the boulder and the making of the inscription was entrusted to sculptor Kazimierz Kostka from Wodnica. The unveiling and consecration ceremony of the obelisk - Pope's Landing VIII, took place on June 16, 2006. The commemorative stone is one of ten to be placed on the canoe trail from Gowidlin to Slupsk.
