Bishop's Palace

The palace, based on a rectangular plan, has hexagonal towers at the corners. At the front is a three-bay loggia. Bishop Zadzik made sure that the building evokes a serene lord's residence, which is drowned in gardens. The chancellor recorded his actions in several layers of the palace. The principle of trinity, which should be interpreted as the founder's connection to the idea of the Holy Trinity, appears repeatedly in the decorations. His coat of arms, the Korab, also appears very frequently. Zadzik also commissioned paintings presenting his achievements: his participation in the expedition near Moscow, his speech at the Warsaw Sejm in 1638 (in his speech he demanded the expulsion of Arians). The Sejm speech is on a large plafond in one of the halls. The halls in the palace were planned to be 16 large and 8 smaller ones. There were also 2 suites: the bishop's and royal suites (the name is said to recall the visit of King Charles XII of Sweden in 1702). The royal halls contain paintings with historical content. In one of the halls, known as the Portrait Hall, there is a frieze depicting the post of the bishops of Cracow. If you raise your head, you can see the beautiful larch ceiling, painted in allegorical scenes. Many rooms have fireplaces, portals, beamed ceilings and plafonds. Bishop Zadzik spared no expense on furnishings, taking care to use marble and gold. Behind the palace is a garden, and the whole is surrounded by walls.

An interesting knight's hall for lovers of all kinds of armor. The Italian garden is impressive both when you walk through it and when you look at it from the windows of the paLAT. Photos - as far as I remember - inside are not allowed. So if you are exploring the area, and you hit some rainy, cloudy day .... You will shelter your head and learn something interesting

  • The Bishop's Palace in Kielce is considered the best preserved 17th century magnate residence. It is the most valuable monument of Kielce. Construction of the palace began when Bishop Zadzik, Grand Crown Chancellor, fell into disfavor with King Sigismund III Vasa and was slowly removed from great politics. The building was to become a monument to the bishop's many merits, a testament to his faith and probably also to his great financial capabilities.
