    Unique Stay: May 2013

I visited this place for the second time. Each time the weather is better and better, but not good enough to see all those shrines spread out on the hills. You have toadmit that the place has its own unique atmosphere. All in all, it should be 4.5 stars, because if you hit the crowds of pilgrims, the monastery gastronomy does not make it:)

  • The sanctuary in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, which was established at the beginning of the 17th century as a foundation of Mikołaj Zebrzydowski, is today one of the most interesting landmarks in Poland.jobrazy-architectural and to the most frequented Polish pilgrimage sites. Thousands of pilgrims gather, especially during the Glorious Mystery of the Lord in Holy Week and during the Mystery of the Burial and Triumph of Our Lady in August. The Calvary Sanctuary consists of a Baroque basilica, which houses the miraculous image of Our Lady of Calvary, a monastery and a complex of churches and chapels in Baroque and Mannerist styles, integrated into the picturesque Beskid landscape and named the Calvary Roads. The shrine was built on the model of the Way of the Cross of Jesus in Jerusalem. It is, therefore, "a kind of copy of the Calvary of Jerusalem" with chapels for meditating on the Passion of Christ and the mysteries of the life of the Mother of God.
