It covers the area of the Karkonosze National Park in Poland and the Czech Republic. It protects the peaks of the highest mountain group of the Sudetes, with granite rocks of fantastic kshtalts. In Poland, only in this area do the Karkonosze bellflower and basalt rockrose grow. About 100 species of birds and about 40 species of mammals have been found, including 16 species of bats. An attraction of Karkonosze is the mouflon (an ancestor of Corsica and Sardinia), introduced here in the early 20th century. 4 species of fish, 6 species of amphibians and 5 species of reptiles have also been found in Karkonosze. It is worth a trip to Sněžka (1603m), the highest peak in the Giant Mountains and the entire Sudetenland. At the summit itself, you can visit the historic chapel of 1681 and the High-Mountain Observatory of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management.
