Janowiec Castle... Beautiful from the outside... But how it is inside I don't know, because they didn't let me in with a small dog in my arms.... Lack of words, how Poland is backward and ignorantncyjna... They look only at the tip of their own nose.... Shame Poles

While in Kazimierz Dolny, it is worth crossing to the left side of the Vistula River and visiting Janowiec for the castle. Beautiful ruins, and from what the gentleman selling tickets said there is also some eksposition, but at the time I was, it was already closed, unfortunately.

  • The castle in Janowiec-on-Vistula is home to one of the branches of the Nadwiślańskie Museum. The bastion castle, erected at the beginning of the 16th century and expanded until the 18th century, was siedziba of the magnate families of Firlej, Tarłów and Lubomirski. Prominent architects and sculptors Santi Gucci Fiorentino, Giovanni Battista Falconi and Tylman of Gameren are associated with its construction. The Vistula River Museum carried out the preservation of the ruin and carried out a partial reconstruction of the castle. One of the rebuilt parts is the so-called North House - a kind of palace, added in the 1st half of the 16th century to the previously existing defensive wall. Its authorship is attributed to the architect Santi Gucci Fiorentino. Currently, three halls on the first floor house exhibits on the castle's past, subsequent owners, the history of the building and the history of its preservation.
