There is a "Monkey Island" on the lake. It is a hill (formerly a stronghold) that became an island after the flooding of the Dunajec valley in 1942, and is now an area of specialj landscape protection and a bird sanctuary. 165 species of birds nest in the area of the lake every year, including such rare ones as the black stork, which appears in the floodplains on the border of Grodek and Bartkowa.
