Naval Museum

The Naval Museum attracts many tourists to Gdynia every year. It was brought into existence in 1953, although the collection of memorabilia and materials began shortly after the end of World War II, in 1945. Among the permanent exhibitions, the facility features famous models of sailing ships and armed elements of ships from the 20th century. Thanks to the state-of-the-art multimedia exhibition "We have orders to keep you", all history buffs can get an in-depth look at the Polish Navy's past. The museum's biggest attraction, however, is a living legend - ORP "Blyskawica." The ship was constructed in 1936, by one of the oldest shipyards in the UK - J. Samuel White. The vessel was once powered by two steam turbines fueled by mazut. In today's museum you can take a close look at their design. The speed the ship could reach was 36.9 knots, or 68.34 km/h. The ship has a total of 16 guns and 4 torpedo launchers. The Naval Museum here organizes workshops for children and young people. The museum can also be visited with a guide.

  • The Naval Museum is the oldest in the country and the only institution of its kind dealing exclusively with the history of the Polish arms at sea. The Naval Museum was establishedo on 28.06.1953 on the initiative of the Naval Command, as well as a wide range of enthusiasts of the naval type of armed forces and its historians. Currently, the Naval Museum consists of three main departments: 1. the Museum's ship ORP "Blyskawica" 2. the Department of Documentation and Studies 3. the Exhibition and Inventory Department with the Outdoor Exhibition of Maritime Arms and Armaments.
