Templar Chapel

Feedback

  • A relic of the Khwarsh Commandery Templar buildings is an exquisite Gothic chapel located in the northwestern part of the foundation. In its place, around the middle of theIn the 13th century, the Knights Templar built a Romanesque stone chapel. It was an oblong, single-nave building covered with a gabled roof. Probably around 1280 the Romanesque chapel was demolished, and a Gothic temple was erected in its place, preserved in almost original form to this day. From the old chapel, the western part with a stepped portal was left, while the demolition material was used to build the foundation of the brick temple. The Khwarsh Chapel in architectural terms is a single-nave, three-bay building, closed on the eastern side with five sides of an octagon. The interior was covered with a cross-ribbed vault, supported by capitals of round, wall-mounted pillars overhanging the longitudinal section and brought to the floor in the polygonal chancel.
