The parish, dedicated to Saint Hedwig the Queen, is one of the two youngest communities in Chojnice. It was established in 2004. And although the church on Wiśniowa Street was dedicated to theThe chapel was put into use a year earlier, and construction work is still in progress. Since 1998, the faithful had been using the chapel, which functioned as part of the now-defunct parish of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the so-called gymnasium church). The choice of Queen Hedwig as patroness was not accidental. After all, John Paul II declared her a saint in 1997. Although the queen was venerated by her subjects after her death, it was not until almost 500 years later that she was first declared blessed by the Church, and ten years later a saint. She was known for her charitable deeds such as helping to build churches, hospitals and equipping them. So during the creation of a new parish in Chojnice, she was the most up-to-date saint to become the community's patron saint. And she apparently influences her parishioners, because Catholic Action, which operates at this very church, came up with the idea of organizing a Christmas Eve meal for all Chojnice residents in need. And this is how it has been going on for more than a dozen years. The parish priest, Henryk Cyrzan would like to take this opportunity to express his heartfelt God of thanks to all the sponsors who contributed to the organization of the Christmas Eve dinner that took place this year in the Chojnice market square. It is worth recalling that about 500 meals were served. There is also a thriving Caritas association at the parish, which every year obtains about 1.5 tons of food for the needy belonging not only to this parish. Thanks to this, more than a hundred families receive assistance. The most numerous, however, is the Patroness of Good Death Association. This is a prayer association that prepares to obtain the grace of a good death for oneself and one's neighbors by living a life of prayer and performing good deeds. Continued construction work at the church this past year consisted primarily of completing the tower, fixing the cross on it, pouring the floors and installing canopies over the entrances to the church. Construction is taking place only thanks to the generosity of parishioners, who share their money once a month during a special collection. From the life of the parish Masses on Sundays and holy days and on abolished holidays: 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 5 p.m. in winter, 6 p.m. in summer; weekdays: 8 a.m., 5 p.m. in winter, 6 p.m. in summer. The parish is assisted by a senior priest from the now-defunct Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish, Lucjan Cyrankiewicz, and a vicar, Tomasz Osmałek.
