It was established in 1820, when the first Jewish cemetery was closed due to lack of space for more burials. The newly established cemetery was fenced with a fence. During the FirstWorld War I Germans almost completely destroyed it. About 250 Jews, killed during the Holocaust, were buried in the cemetery. For many years, only isolated remains of graves could be found in the cemetery. In 2008, thanks to the efforts of the Khmelnytsky Cultural Association and the Kalish family of Haifa, who originated from Khmelnytsky - the cemetery was fenced and cleaned up. Recovered matzevot were dug into the ground, and in a corner of the cemetery a monument was unveiled - a lapidarium, for the construction of which fragments of tombstones were used.
