We were pleasantly surprised by the magnificent exhibition, even though we have already visited almost all the castles in Poland. The building itself has been sensationally restored, and Bytow deserves to befor devoting time to him in his travels in these wonderful areas. We will be back here, because it is really worth it.
14.02.2010In 1329, the Teutonic Knights purchased the land of Bytow. Construction of the Bytow castle began at the end of the 14th century, and was completed in 1405. It was erected on the plan of a quadrangle, the building was surrounded by thewas walled, with three round and one square tower in the corners and a monastic house on the north side. After the Peace of Torun, the castle fell into the hands of the dukes of Pomerania. Around 1570, a major reconstruction of the foundation began, with the erection of new buildings in the courtyard - including the so-called Ducal and Widow's Houses and the ducal chancellery. In 1656 a Swedish crew ruined the castle, blowing up part of the Priory House and the tower. The rest of the buildings and towers burned out completely. As a result, the foundation fell into disrepair, and some of the buildings were demolished. It was not until 1937 that a decision was made to reconstruct the castle establishment, which was carried out until 1989. The original castle establishment in Bytow was built in the Gothic style. Today, with the exception of large fragments of the outer walls, most of the buildings date back to the 16th century reconstruction or were reconstructed as early as the 20th century.
