Petroleum Industry Museum

The Ignacy Lukasiewicz Museum of Oil and Gas Industry is located in Bóbrka, a small Podkarpackie town 14 kilometers from Krosno. A mine had been operating on the site of today's museum since 1854. Founded by Ignacy Lukasiewicz (inventor of the kerosene lamp), Tytus Trzecieski and Karol Klobassy-Zrencki, the oil company was the first of its kind on a global scale. To this day, two operating oil wells can be seen here - "Janina" and "Frank", whose history dates back to the nineteenth century. In addition to this unique attraction, the museum features a display of kerosene lamps, a geological exhibition, as well as a wooden forge equipped with antique blacksmith tools. Other major exhibits include: A 19th-century boiler house, a 1923 percussion drilling rig, a steam-powered Canadian-type locomotive drilling rig (1885), or a collection of industrial and domestic gas meters and laboratory equipment. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday.

Interesting place in Podkarpacie, you can learn a lot about the history of the oil industry. The surroundings are also very pleasant!

I don't know what the place looks like now because I was there a long time ago (long before 2006) A place worth seeing, especially for those who are already bored with typical museums (withamkas, palaces, churches). Particularly stuck in my memory were the old fuel dispensers and the well with oil (to have one for your own use...). There is also a wonderful collection of lamps (starting from the kagome through oil lamps, etc.) The place is a bit out of the way but I recommend it to motorists.

  • The open-air museum - the Ignacy Lukasiewicz Museum of Oil Industry in Bóbrka is a unique facility in the world. On this patch of Polish land a branch of the industry was bornhe oil industry, which in the second half of the 19th century pushed the world toward a hitherto unprecedented development of civilization. On about 20 hectares of fenced area are spread exhibitions of oil mining, gas industry, refining industry and distribution of petroleum products. There are authentic historical buildings here, bearing witness to the pedigree of the Polish oil industry.
