Church of St. Simon and St. Jude Thaddeus

Church of St. Simon and St. Jude Thaddeus

The parish dedicated to St. Simon and St. Jude Thaddeus is located in Bialka Tatrzanska, at 183 Srodkowa St. The first church, built in this place in 1635, did not survive to our times. It was destroyed by fire, around 1700. A wooden temple, built in its place, was consecrated in 1765. In 1921 a new brick church was erected next to it, which is now a parish church. The old church was to be demolished, but thanks to local highlanders it lived to see restoration. A small highland carpentry museum has been arranged in the porch. Inside the church you can admire 18th-century furnishings, including an altar and pulpit. On the walls of the chancel and main nave are the remains of paintings, painted in the 19th century. When visiting the temple, it is also worth looking up. For the ceiling is decorated with unique sculptures, created by Wojciech Kulach. The building itself, meanwhile, was built by Jan Chlipalski and Jędrzej Topór. The parish of St. Simon and St. Jude Thaddeus is located on the Trail of Wooden Architecture in Malopolska, along with 124 other churches and 50 Orthodox churches.

  • The wooden church in Bialka Tatrzanska was built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries by Jędrzej Topor and Jan Chlipalski. The building has a log structure, roofWith one ridge, it is covered with shingles. The tower has a suspended chamber and a pyramidal cupola. The church is surrounded by old trees and a stone wall with gates. The interior is decorated in Baroque and Rococo styles. Attention is drawn to the decorative altars and the wooden statue of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception from the 18th century. Since 1921, services have not been held in the church, but one can see objects of daily use related to highland folklore.
